As of July 30th, 2025, HHC (Hexahydrocannabinol) has been officially classified as an illegal drug in Ireland. The Department of Health has added HHC to the Misuse of Drugs Act, making it a controlled substance that can no longer be legally sold, possessed, or supplied.

This change reflects a broader shift across Europe, with countries like France, Sweden, and the UK already taking similar action. HHC, a semi-synthetic cannabinoid derived from hydrogenated THC, was widely used as a legal alternative to cannabis. While many users found it effective, the synthetic nature and lack of regulation around HHC raised increasing safety concerns, prompting this ban.

No HHCP or THCP: Only Natural Products

In response to the ban, some companies are now pushing other synthetic cannabinoids such as HHCP and THCP. These are stronger than HHC, but lack proper research and pose significant unknowns.
